North Korea has extended the tour options for US citizens. The country’s government confirmed that Americans may visit North Korea for extended visits in 2012, unlike past years when US tourists could only visit for five days at a time. In addition, North Korea has said that US citizens may now visit throughout the year, rather than only during the annual Arirang Festival celebrations - two months of mass artistic performances to celebrate the birthday of Kim Il-sung.
