Madame Tussauds to open in Sydney
Published on Aug 11, 2011
Madame Tussauds will launch its first attraction in Australia, when the waxwork museum comes to Sydney’s in Darling Harbour in May 2012. The AU$14 million (US$14.4 million), 1,800m² attraction will be the 13th Madame Tussauds in the world and fourth in Asia Pacific, following existing attractions in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Bangkok.
Merlin Entertainments promised to bring Madame Tussauds to Sydney when it acquired four of the city’s other top attractions earlier this year – Sydney Aquarium and Oceanworld Manly, and the soon-to-be-relaunched WILD LIFE Sydney and Sydney Tower Eye and SKYWALK. The Aussie Madame Tussauds will feature waxwork replicas of local celebrities such as Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman (pictured above), alongside international A-listers like Johnny Depp and Lady Gaga, and politicians, literary and sports stars like Don Bradman.
