DMZ Soldier

It just might be the strangest tourist spot in Asia, given that the DMZ, or 38th parallel dividing the two Koreas, is
always at a heightened sense of security. In one of the small blue houses that straddle the border, where representatives of the two sides meet, this South Korean guard mans his post in what is referred to as a modified Taekwando stance. All is quiet and extremely serious along this invisible demarcation line that is continually front-page news. —JAMES KOSTECKY
