When it comes to marine biodiversity, few places on the planet can match the dazzling array of aquatic life that resides in Maldivian waters. Virtually any patch of this archipelago puts the world’s best aquariums to shame, but the Baa Atoll, a protected UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, is especially spectacular. Situated in the heart of the reserve near Hanifaru Bay, home to the world’s largest gathering of manta rays, The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort offers the chance to get up close and personal with some truly fascinating creatures.

Befitting its setting, the resort’s designers took extra care to incorporate eco-friendly strategies wherever possible. Solar panels soak up the abundant Maldivian sunshine and provide a renewable source of green energy, while double-roofing in each of the spacious luxury villas helps minimize electricity consumption. Old transportation containers were repurposed to form the resort’s Dive Centre and piling waste found new life in the form of structures and fencing.

During their stay, guests can sample exquisite cuisine at three dining outlets serving Maldivian, Indian, Chinese and Japanese delicacies. After an action-packed day of scuba diving, many guests opt to relax on the rooftop Sunset Bar or indulge in a spa treatment.
