While Bali remains one of the world's most popular tourist destinations, there are other equally compelling islands in the Indonesian archipelago that remain remarkably untrammeled. For naturalists and adventurous souls, the island of Flores has always held a special allure. It's home to the legendary, lethal Komodo dragon, a rare beast that seems like something from the pages of a Tolkien novel, as well as some of the most naturally stunning scenery on the planet.

This summer heralds the arrival of the area's first five-star resort. Located on the striking shores of Labuan Bajo, Waecicu Beach, the new AYANA Komodo Resort, Waecicu Beach will feature 13 suites and 192 premium guest rooms kitted out in contemporary Indonesian style. Every single room features an ocean view, so each guests can watch the rays of the setting sun over nearby Kukusan Island. In order to help protect and preserve its surroundings, the resort will actively raise funds to support Komodo National Park.

In addition to an indulgent spa, a kid's club, and a top-flight fitness center, the resort will feature six F&B outlets, including Kisik bar & grill, which will serve freshly caught seafood, HonZEN, a luxe Japanese eatery, and Pempe, a rooftop bar with light bites and heart-stopping views. Best of all, the resort will feature its own nine-bedroom, 54-meter-long luxury phinisi for spectacular ocean voyages.
