CAMBODIA HAS BROKEN OUT as a tourism star with good reason. Its tropical coastline is picture perfect, its buzzing capital, Phnom Penh, has a thriving restaurant and bar scene, and the temples at Angkor are legendary. Indeed, the country is heaven for those who appreciate history, heritage, culture and food.

Siem Reap
is synonymous with Angkor Wat, but Angkor Thom, the last great city of the Khmer empire, and its enigmatic centerpiece, Bayon Temple, are also must-sees. Downtown, visitors can shop the central market or party hard on vibrant Pub Street. And not far away, the sunken mangrove forest at Kampong Phluk by the tranquil waters of Tonle Sap Lake is a natural gem.

A bit west, Battambang has its own dynamism. Phare Circus was first established here and nightly shows at the big top are as vibrant as ever. Outside town, riding the famous “bamboo train” or biking around villages and lush landscapes both offer an idyllic glimpse into rural life.

Cambodia’s coastline
stakes its claim as an option for a blissful break. Sihanoukville has great beaches, delicious seafood and a busy nightlife. It’s also the hop-off point for boats to nearby paradise islands such as Koh Rong

Circle back to Phnom Penh, where sophisticated new restaurants and bars have changed the face of the capital’s entertainment scene, while towering skyscrapers are altering its skyline. Nevertheless, the city’s rich—and often tragic—history can still be witnessed at its ornate Royal Palace and at Tuol Sleng genocide museum

Phnom Penh

With its location in the heart of Southeast Asia making it a breeze to get to, the time is ripe to discover Cambodia.
