MAP @ Publika seeks to foster an arts-and-design community within the Publika mall at the multi-use Solaris Dutamas complex. The project was launched in 2010 with a 560-square-meter gallery, White Box, a 250-seat theater, Black Box, and a planned four additional contemporary art galleries. In addition to roughly 15 exhibitions annually, theater and musical performances (such as a gig by Gruff Rhys of Welsh indie band Super Furry Animals), stand-up comedy acts and talks are also being organized. “Our goal is to have the average citizen comfortable with art and culture of all types. We want to help people become active producers of culture rather than passive consumers,” says MAP manager Alex Yong.
