Besides commemorating the 84th birthday of Thailand's King Bhumibol, the world's longest reigning monarch, the second edition of the Royal Flora Ratchaphruek also pays tribute to the king's and queen's lifelong devotion to the kingdom's social and environmental sustainability. This three-month horticultural extravaganza features some 2.5 million plant and flower varieties from over 30 countries, including Bhutan, Taiwan, Japan, Morocco and the Netherlands. Kids will be thrilled at the Eco Park, which provides ample hands-on activities and exhibitions for young minds to learn about the effects of climatic change on nature. Take a ride on the giant 40-meter ferris wheel to enjoy panoramic views of the 80-hectare landscaped garden, or marvel at the sight of thousands of illuminated plants and glow-in-the-dark butterflies dancing to the rhythms of music.
