While you will not find the dark opium dens and brothels that made the district infamous during the French colonial era, Cholon still packs a punch with its charming attractions. A world apart from the rest of Saigon, Cholon is home to the city’s Chinese community since the early 20th century when a large number of Chinese immigrants moved into the city. Set apart by its largely Chinese-language signs, the district is a fascinating mix of temples, restaurants, and medicine shops.
