The China House

An extensive renovation transformed the interiors of this Bangkok mainstay into a seductive homage to 1930’s Shanghai—but with contemporary touches.
Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, 48 Oriental Ave., Bangkok, Thailand

The Overview

In the restaurant's heart lies a cloistered sitting room that houses the tea apothecary. It's a sight that would set a tea aficionado's heart racing: 35 canisters bearing blends and pure leaves from Mariage Frères, France's oldest purveyor of fine teas. On the menu, the restaurant is renowned for its Szechuan-style hot and sour soup with lobster, the  oven-roasted Peking duck, and their homemade tofu.
