The Overview

It may technically be a chain, but the Bangkok branch of this global sushi empire manages to feel both indulgent and impressive. Granite, glass, bamboo and reflective surfaces help set the subtly sexy mood, while the outdoor patio tends to attract pretty people sipping cocktails with ingredients such as rhubarb-infused sake or elderflower and ginger. Although the focus sometimes seems to rest more on the ambiance, the food is equally worthy of attention. Portions of dishes such as seabass with yuzu truffle oil and salmon roe, or the obligatory miso-marinated black cod, feature uncommonly generous portions of very fresh seafood. Yes, there are other restaurants doing similar things, but Zuma does them quite well.
