The Overview
This 570-room property is as much of a heritage site as it is a hotel. Built in 1909 to rival the presidential Malacañang Palace the building has had a vibrant history: it was the home of U.S. General Douglas MacArthur from 1935 to 1941; it is the location of a number news organizations' local offices, including The New York Times; and it has provide luxurious respite for a number of celebrities including Ernest Hemmingway, Michael Jackson and John Wayne. The decor is grandiose and evokes the luxury of a bygone era. Features include seven bars and restaurants, an impressive health club and extensive sports facilities.
