Explore Manila's rich colonial history at the Intramuros

Built by the ruling Spanish in the late 16th century, the walled city of Intramuros is a glorious prelude to today's bustling Manila. Housed within its imposing walls were churches, convents, schools, houses and government buildings. Remarkably, the walled city survived centuries of brutal invasion and occupation at the hands of various powers before finally being devastated at the hands of American bombardment during World War II.

Some of the most beautiful attractions here include Fort Santiago, San Augustin Church (the oldest church in the Philippines), Manila Cathedral and medieval dungeons.
