The Overview

Built in 1903, the Tai Locke Hotel had been vacant for years when Malaysia-born Nardya Wray and her Italian husband Roberto Dreon bought it in 2008. In 2011, the gracefully curved, three-story corner structure opened as Campbell House. The 10 rooms draw on George Town’s trading-port past and married old and new—think Peranakan tiles and rain showers, exposed beams and concrete floors, antique accent pieces and Persian rugs. Drinks with a view from the second-level terrace are a guests-only perk, while the convivial Bacaro restaurant will serve cicchetti, wood oven-cooked pizza and home-style Venetian fare.
