Luang Prabang

An oasis of tranquility amidst the urban deserts of the region, Luang Prabang is seemingly untouched by the hustle and bustle of modern-day metropolises in Southeast Asia. Immortalized by images of hundreds of saffron-robed, as well as scented flowers, serene riversides and crumbling French architecture, this former royal bastion is teeming with visitors. Being listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site only complements the magical aura of this historical and cultural masterpiece.

Hotels

This former capital of Laos has one of the best accommodation options in line with its rising status as the main tourism hub of the country. From large hotels to boutique resorts to budget guesthouses, visitors are likely to have no problems finding a place here.

Food & Drink

Stroll down the Sisavangvong Street to find dozens of restaurants and eateries lining the road and further along the Mekong, which serve the usual Southeast Asian fare with local specialties, including French-Lao fusion dishes, which rank quite high in terms of culinary satisfaction.

Shopping

Devoid of the upscale malls and giant shopping complexes that dot the region’s major cities, the shopping experience in Luang Prabang is limited various day and night markets where a wide range of products including handicrafts, silk, wood items, books, clothes, and watches are sold.

Nightlife

A far cry from a party destination, this charming little town is not a haven for night owls. Most bars and clubs are closed around 11PM as streets empty of people and activity.

Spa

Among the many spas plying their trade in Luang Prabang, some worth mentioning include the Spa Garden and the Kamu Spa. The Spa Garden is set in a beautiful garden with a decent variety of massages, facials and scrubs while the Kamu Spa is famed for its traditional Kamu massage practiced by the local Kamu ethnic minority.
