Jakarta

Although Jakarta is not known as a popular tourist destination, this enormous metropolitan city has much to offer. Home to more than 300 cultural groups, Jakarta is the main gateway to the different regions in the Indonesian archipelago. Beautiful historic buildings within Jakarta's “Old City” (Kota) area hints to Indonesia's rich past, while Jakarta's large museums are evidence of it. Jakarta's dynamic Chinatown also sports hundreds of restaurants and bars, some of which are, arguably, the largest in Southeast Asia. The enormous shopping malls generously scattered all over the city grounds are hardly something to scoff at, either.

Hotels

Indonesia’s crowded, bustling capital may be bursting at its seams but the place definitely has a lot of room for incoming visitors in the form of salubrious hotels, mid-range accommodation as well as the low-end guesthouses and hostels.

Food & Drink

For the best of local Indonesian cuisine and intercontinental food, Jakarta is a rewarding destination. For those who may not be able to take the spicy street stalls lining the myriad streets of the capital, the food courts in shopping malls are a definite highlight to sample various different types of food.

Shopping

One of Southeast Asia biggest metropolises, Jakarta is a major shopping destination with glittering malls, gigantic shopping plazas, cheap bazaars as well as local shops specializing in handicrafts and designer wear.

Nightlife

An exciting yet under-rated nightlife destination, Jakarta’s urban sprawl conceals a unique and pulsating party atmosphere. Get ready to be knocked off your feet by a good mixture of up-scale clubs, wine bars, loud pubs, seedy discos as well as chilled-out lounges.

Spa

To enjoy Jakarta’s fledgling spa experience, be sure to check out the ultra-luxury and swanky hotels that dot the city’s featureless landscape. Indeed, this is one of the few ways to escape the pollution and crowds of a mammoth metropolis such as this.
