A welcome addition to the city’s design-forward Bund stays, the 184-room Hotel Indigo Shanghai takes its cues from its neighborhood, the Huangpu River’s Shiliupu dock area, with “found art” installations made from deconstructed riverboats and more. Acclaimed firm Hirsch Bedner Associates was the creative force behind the boutique hotel, converging traditional and contemporary elements in the chic décor—think reclaimed Shikumen bricks and polished plaster in the lobby; silk print wallpapers and Chinese artifacts in the guest rooms; and minimalist bathrooms with views of the dramatic Pudong skyline.
