The Savoy Hotel

Rangoon is a charming example of a 19th-century British colonial capital with its architecture and melting pot of British, Burmese, Chinese and Indian influences.

With the gleaming golden Shwedagon Paya visible from all over the city, Rangoon’s maze of historic streets bears testimony to some of the best British colonial-era architecture in the region.

Trapped in a time warp, the city has fallen far behind its regional rivals in terms of modernization, but still woos visitors for its stunning Buddhist temples, teeming open-air markets, shady parks and beautiful lakes.

Burma’s largest city has cheap and numerous options for accommodation. While the most popular among these are the cheap backpacker guesthouses, the mid-range and luxury hotels are also plentiful.
